Monitoring & Reporting

The Department of Sustainability and Environment monitors and reports on the health and availability of Victoria’s water resources through a number of programs and partnerships.

These monitoring activities are essential for building a sound understanding of water systems, assisting decision-making in water management and regional planning, and tracking progress towards government targets.

A range of river health monitoring programs and studies provide important baseline river health data, while an extensive network of bores through the state are used for groundwater monitoring.

The Monthly Water Report is published online at the end of each month, providing an updated summary of the current state of Victoria’s water resources.

The State Water Report provides an annual overview of water availability and use across Victoria at bulk supply level, including a detailed water account for each of Victoria’s 29 river basins.

Data from monitoring activities can also be accessed online at the Victorian Water Resources Data Warehouse.
