General Groundwater Data

In addition to monitoring data gathered via the State Observation Bore Network, groundwater information is held in relation to approximately 135,000 boreholes throughout Victoria on the Groundwater Management System (GMS).

The GMS contains data from a wide variety of sources including the former Rural Water Corporation, the Minerals and Energy Department (now part of the Department of Primary Industries), other Government Departments, industry and the community.

This information has been generated over time and is primarily of interest to individuals and organisations involved in groundwater management and investigations, but is also a useful resource for all environmental studies where groundwater or catchment condition is a focus. A copy of the data stored within the GMS is available on request from DSE: email groundwater@ourwater.vic.gov.au.

Periodic snapshot sampling is also conducted by DSE to establish a picture of the groundwater resource at a given point in time. The most recent sampling was undertaken between May and December 2008 and is known as the Groundwater Snapshot.

Groundwater data can also be accessed at the Victorian Water Resources Data Warehouse site.
