Water Corporations
Victoria's water corporations supply water and sewerage services to customers within their service areas.
The water sector is made up of:
- Seventeen water corporations constituted under the Water Act 1989; and
- Three state owned companies established under the Corporations Act 2001 that are holders of water and sewerage licenses issued under the Water Industry Act 1994 (the licensees).
Water Corporations
Melbourne Water Corporation provides bulk water and bulk sewerage services in the Melbourne metropolitan area and manages rivers and creeks and major drainage systems in the Port Phillip and Westernport region.
Three of the water corporations provide a combination of irrigation services, domestic and stock services and some bulk water supply services in regional Victoria. These are the First Mildura Irrigation Trust, Gippsland and Southern Rural Water, and Goulburn Murray Rural Water.
Two of the water corporations provide a combination of water, sewerage, irrigation and domestic and stock services to customers in their respective service areas. These are the Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water, Lower Murray Urban and Rural Water.
Eleven of the water corporations provide water and sewerage services throughout regional Victoria. These are Barwon Water, Central Highlands Water, Coliban Water, East Gippsland Water, Gippsland Water, Goulburn Valley Water, North East Water, South Gippsland Water, Western Water, Westernport Water, Wannon Region Water Authority.
The Licensees
The licensees deliver retail water supply and sewerage services to customers in the Melbourne metropolitan area. The licensees are City West Water Ltd, South East Water Ltd, Yarra Valley Water Ltd.
