Community Consultation

Talking with local people about how they might be affected by the proposed desalination plant is an important part of ongoing project development and the construction phase.

A program of forums, field days and presentations with displays and information material help people have their say about the project.

A range of public activities have been held since the middle of 2007, including community information sessions at Inverloch, San Remo, Kilcunda and Wonthaggi and information stands at local markets and festivals. Briefings have been given to councils, local groups, landowners, water authorities and other interested parties.  Landowners continue to be consulted about the pipeline and power supply.

Consultation activities include:

  • information stands at community events
  • consultant open days where people can talk face-to-face with technical experts working on EES studies
  • briefings and discussions with organised community groups, businesses, community leaders and agencies
  • focus groups and interviews
  • information kits available at the project information office, and by request using the online feedback form
  • website updates and feedback forms
  • community newsletters
  • newspaper articles and public notices in local papers.

The Project Information Office at Wonthaggi is the main point of contact for information and feedback. You can also call 1800 811 214.

You can tell the project team what you think, and register to receive information or organise a briefing for your community group, by submitting an online feedback form or emailing desalination.project@dse.vic.gov.au. You can also download a hard copy here.
