Hamilton-Grampians Pipeline

The Hamilton-Grampians Pipeline will supply the Hamilton system with up to 2 billion litres of water each year by connecting the Hamilton system to Rocklands Reservoir.

The 52 km pipeline will be mainly located in private property next to the road reserve between Rocklands Reservoir and the existing pipeline on the Dunkeld-Cavendish Road, south east of Cavendish, where it will connect to the existing Grampians Headworks pipeline.

The pipeline will be an important new link in the Victorian Water Grid and will allow Hamilton to share in the savings generated by the Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline.

The pipeline will improve water availability in the Hamilton area and significantly reduce the likelihood of restrictions being applied in the future.

The cost of the Hamilton-Grampians Pipeline was estimated at $30 million.  Following the award of tenders, the pipeline is now expected to be delivered below budget at $21.3 million. Work on the pipeline is currently underway and construction is expected to be completed in early 2010.

Funding

The State Government will be contributing $10 million towards the $21.3 million project. This is on top of the Government’s $266 million investment in the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline.

Water bills for customers in the Hamilton area will also increase to cover the cost of the pipeline. Contact Wannon Water for further details.
