50 year water outlook for Western Victoria
19 May 2009
An information sheet has been released to show the potential impact of climate change on streams in the Western Region of Victoria.
The information sheet, prepared for release by the Western Region Sustainable Water Strategy Consultative Committee, shows the range of possible reductions based on the potential impact of medium climate change and a continuation of the dry conditions of the past 12 years.
The Western Region Sustainable Water Strategy is a State Government initiative to provide a policy and planning framework to manage water resources in the Western Region for the next 50 years.
Understanding the range of pressures and threats to our water resources enables us to make decisions today that will secure our water resources for the future.
The Strategy’s climate change information sheet is available from Wannon Water, Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water, Barwon Water, Central Highlands Water, Southern Rural Water, and the Corangamite, Glenelg-Hopkins, Wimmera, Mallee and North Central catchment management authorities and at www.ourwater.vic.gov.au/sws/western.
It will be followed by the release of the draft Western Region Sustainable Water Strategy for public comment in mid-2009.
