Bigger rebates for smaller rainwater tanks
01 July 2009
Smaller rainwater tanks are now eligible for a bigger rebate under an extension to the Victorian Government’s Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate scheme.
From 1 July, households that install a 4000 litre or greater rainwater tank that is plumbed into the toilet and laundry will receive a $1000 rebate – to date this has only applied to tanks 5000 litres and above.
Rainwater tanks are an excellent way to save water at home. There are no restrictions on the use of rainwater in Victoria which means this water can be used for a range of purposes including keeping gardens healthy and for washing cars.
The rebates available for rainwater tanks are:
- $1000 rebate for tanks 4000 litres or greater which are plumbed to the toilet and laundry;
- $900 rebate for tanks 4000 litres or greater which are plumbed to the toilet or laundry;
- $500 rebate for tanks between 2000-4000 litres which are plumbed to either the toilet or laundry; and
- $150 rebate for tanks 600 litres or greater – for outdoor and garden use only.
Rebates are also available for greywater systems, water efficient showerheads, dual flush toilets, hot water recirculators, mulch and a range of other water saving products.
The scheme has provided almost 240,000 rebates saving billions of litres of water each year.
Households can also exchange their old showerhead for a three-star water efficient model for free with their local water authority.
